All unauthorized workshops that want to repair or service safety systems in vehicles (e.g., ABS, ESP, airbags, ADAS) must meet SERMI requirements.
This applies to both small local workshops and large networks of independent services.
Companies engaged in vehicle diagnostics, sensor calibration (e.g., cameras, radars in ADAS systems), or programming electronics.
Without certification, they will not gain access to error codes, electrical diagrams, or manufacturer software.
Entities dismantling vehicles (e.g., scrapyards) that must safely deactivate safety systems (e.g., airbags) before disposal.
Companies creating tools for workshops (e.g., diagnostic scanners, calibration software) that want to integrate data from manufacturers (OEM).
Workshops focusing on the repair of electric, hybrid vehicles, or autonomous systems – without certification, they will not gain access to key data (e.g., battery systems, control software).
Authorized OEM services – have direct access to manufacturer data.
Workshops engaged in only repairs unrelated to safety systems (e.g., bodywork, tire changes).
EU legal requirement: Regulation (EU) 2018/858 leaves no choice – independent entities must meet standards to operate legally.
Without certification:• No access to key technical data,• Risk of financial penalties or prohibition of activity,• Inability to compete with authorized services.
The SERMI certificate is mandatory for every entity that:
Repairs, services, or diagnoses safety systems in vehicles,
Wants to operate legally and competitively in the EU market.
It is not just a formality, but a condition for access to future technologies – from electromobility to autonomous driving. 🛠️🚗⚡
